Coal is one of the biggest economic resources in Nova scotia. It has some of the biggest coal mining industries in Canada. Coal mining all started on Cape Breton island. All of the coal that was mined in Nova Scotia, has gone to provide power for the industries of Quebec and Ontario. For almost 3 centuries now, Nova Scotia has been exporting the raw material that lies at the base of all modern industry. Approximately 400 million tonnes of coal have been mined on Nova Scotia′s surface and underground coal mines. For thousands of years now, Nova Scotia have been exporting and trading an abundance of coal to many different areas around Canada such as lower Rupert's land.
Fishing and seafood
For thousands of years now, Nova Scotia has been known for their seafood such as, fish, lobster, crab and much more. This is because 90% of the province is surrounded by the Atlantic ocean. Seafood is one of the biggest resources that Nova Scotia trades to other parts of Canada. Nova Scotia traded a lot with the northern provinces such as Northwest Territories and Upper Rupert's Land. Nova Scotia would trade their seafood to NWT and get rare mined minerals such as gold and diamonds in return.
